Russell was very specific. To make this a mid-engine beauty look original with all the amenities and the power of a Subaru 3.0 combined with a Porches 914 manual transmission spin the back wheels.

The original trunk space will make room for the radiator, along with a modified gas tank filler neck from a newer model, power brake booster and all the other norms. 

After sitting for two years with the windshield and back window removed open to the elements, the floor pan was in bad shape. Needless to say that all four floor boards will need replaced.

We realized after deciding to use a Porche 914 manual transmission that we needed to remove 11" from the floor pan.
Going from a car that had less than 36 hp to around 340, one; the body would be twisting left and right, but our main concern was safety. We would have to make drastic reinforcements to the Ghia. Aside from the mid 3.0 engine, 914 Tranny, A/C, etc. we want the interior to look as original as possible, so your typical eight point roll cage was out of the question. We’re always thinking outside the box, well this time we’re thinking inside the box. Literally! We decided to build an internal roll cage, something that as far as I know hadn’t been done before.

Two years after having a local shop replace the original drive train with something a little stronger like the all time favorite small block Chevy 350 and a 700R4 with a shifter, Luis decided it was time to take this baby on the streets. But first it'll need a custom paint job and a few other minor details...

As you can see the first improvement was to replace the original bulky hood that came with it with one that out of a 65'. It bolted right on.
